Bagyong Gener Update July 31, 2012

Bagyong Gener has maintained its strength and is moving in a North Northwest direction, the PAGASA reported Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said that the typhoon was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 260 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.3°N, 124.7°E).

Bagyong Gener is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near center and gustiness of up to 150 kph and is moving at the rate of 7 kph, it said.

Public storm warning signals remained hoisted over the following areas:

Signal No. 3 - Batanes Group of Islands
Signal No. 2 - Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, and Babuyan Group of Islands
Signal No. 1 - Isabela, Apayao and Kalinga

The PAGASA also added the following:

"Typhoon "GENER" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains and moderate to strong winds over Luzon and Visayas especially the western section.

"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under Public Storm Warning Signal #3 and #2 are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

"Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 - 20 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the 700 km diameter of the Typhoon.

"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Seaboard of Luzon and Visayas due to the combined effect of Typhoon "GENER" and the Southwest Monsoon.

"The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today." FULL STORY...

Bagyong Gener Update July 30, 2012

Bagyong Gener has slowed down slightly as it continues to move in a North Northwest direction, the PAGASA reported Monday, July 30, 2012.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said that the center of the tropical storm was estimated based on satellite & surface data at 330 km ENE of Aparri, Cagayan (19.4°N, 124.9°E). Bagyong Gener is packing maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph and is moving at 11kph in a North Northwest direction, it added.

Due to TS Gener,  the PAGASA has raised public storm warning signals over the following areas:

Signal #2 - Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Group of Islands and Group of Islands;

Signal #1 - Isabela, Kalinga, and Apayao.

The PAGASA added that the tropical storm will yield an estimated rainfall amount of  12 - 25 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within its 700 km diameter. The tropical cyclone is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially the western section.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the combined effect of Tropical Storm Gener and the Southwest Monsoon. FULL STORY...

Bagyong Gener continues to gain strength and poses intense danger to Extreme Northern Luzon, the PAGASA reported Sunday, July 29, 2012.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said Bagyong Gener was estimated based on satellite & surface data at 340km ENE of Aparri, Cagayan (18.8N, 125.2E). The tropical storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph and is moving North Northwestward at the rate of 13 kph, it added.

The PAGASA has hoisted storm warning signal over the following areas:

Signal Number 1: Isabela, Kalinga and Apayao;

Signal Number 2: Cagayan including Calayan & Babuyan Group and Batanes Group of Islands.

The PAGASA added that the tropical storm will yield an estimated rainfall amount of  10 - 20 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within its 500 km diameter. The tropical cyclone is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially the western section.

Bagyong Gener PAGASA Update July 28, 2012

Bagyong Gener intensified rapidly into a tropical storm while moving in a north northwest direction, the PAGASA reported Saturday, July 28, 2012.

Bagyong Gener was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 250 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.4°N, 126.3°E) at 4p.m, the PAGASA said.

Due to the weather disturbance, the bureau has hoisted storm warning Signal No. 1 over the following areas: Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands and Batanes Group of Islands.

Bagyong Gener is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is expected to be 290 km northeast of Casiguran, Aurora by Sunday afternoon and 130 km northeast of Basso, Batanes by Monday afternoon.
